19. Tikka Masala (Passport To Flavor)
This is no doubt, the worst thing that i have ever eaten in my entire life. I've literally never tried anything worse. It tastes likes Buttermilk & Cumin.. two big no-no's in my life. Let's all just forget about these and be thankful that they are only available for a limited time.
18. Greektown Gyro (Do Us A Flavor Year #3)
Yeah. These were real unfortunately. If the Tikka Masala chips never had existed, then these bad boys would no doubt hold the title for worst of the worst. The flavor was indescribable, incredibly unique, and unrealistically terrible. Goodbye, and good-riddance.
17. New York Reuben (Do Us A Flavor Year #3)
Okay. So these tasted exactly what i imagine an actual reuben would taste like. However, I don't like rye bread, HATE pickles, HATE Mustard, HATE Sauerkraut, HATE Thousand Island, so basically i hate everything about a reuben except for the corned beef, and i can only tolerate it. Would never chose to get it on a sandwich, but if it was the only option, i would still eat it. But these chips tasted vinegary, pickle-esq, sour, and meaty. All qualities that i don't look for in potato chips.
16. Sirracha (Do Us A Flavor Year #1)
Vinegary, tangy, and hot. Not much more to say, since i already explained my hatred for all things vinegary. These weren't good at all, but they did actually taste like Sirracha.. which i hate.
15. Greek Tzatziki (Passport To Flavor)
At first, i was like.. these taste exactly like sour cream & onion. And then.. that dreaded cucumber taste sent my mouth into a state of shock and i immediately wanted to spit it out. Cucumbers & potato chips do not go together.
14. Wasabi Ginger (Do Us A Flavor Year #2)
Okay. So i know A LOT of people are going to disagree with this choice. Because it almost instantly gained a cult following after being released. People loved it, and really appreciated the idea of a wasabi ginger flavor on a kettle cooked chip. I however did not. They're honestly like eating hot vinegar.. overwhelming obnoxious flavor. I had to spit them out, couldn't even swallow one of them.
13 Fiery Roasted Habenero (Flavor Swap)
Okay, here is where it gets hard. Numbers 14-19 were all disgusting and easy to dismiss, but this flavor wasn't bad. They weren't bad, but they weren't fantastic either. The flavor was very basic and really just tasted 'hot'. Nothing unique or special about the flavor. I couldn't really eat a lot of them, the more i ate the more my mouth burned and couldn't taste anything but heat. I wouldn't be upset if they never brought them back, and i wouldn't be mad if they did bring them back. They were just ok.
12. Olive Oil & Herbs (Flavor Swap)
At first, i was like.. yuck. But then they kind of grew on me. I never got to the point of loving them.. but they weren't bad at all. They got better the more you ate of them, which is kind of the opposite effect that the Fiery Roasted Habenero had. However, like i said with the predecessor, i wouldn't be upset if they decided to never bring them back, but i wouldn't be mad if they did. I'd buy them, but i don't ever crave them.
11. Chinese Szechuan Chicken (Passport To Flavor)
Kind of the same effect as the Fiery Roasted Habenero. The first chip was delicious, (this flavor even more delicious than FRH) but then the heat got overwhelming and i couldn't taste anything but the heat. But the flavor at first taste is great, tastes EXACTLY like Chinese food. When i first tried the passport to flavor collection, this was my favorite. But the heat just became too much. But i still like them.
10. Brazilian Picanha (Passport To Flavor)
These aren't awesome. If it was based on actual taste, Chinese Szechuan Chicken would be number 10, and these would be 11. But these have no heat which i appreciate. The flavor only gets milder and more tolerable the more you eat of them which is the opposite of #11. These are supposed to taste like steak & chimichurri.. i don't know what chimichurri is supposed to taste like, but they absolutely nailed the steak flavor. I like them... and could take care of a couple of bags of them on my own.
9. Cheesy Garlic Bread (Do Us A Flavor Year #1)
These were good. Really light flavor. Light garlic, buttery, Parmesan cheese taste. They shouldn't have won that year, but they did get the flavor right on with these. Not really much more to say about these.
8. Smoked Gouda & Chive (Flavor Swap)
I liked these. They were pretty darn good. The first chip i was like eh, but they got so much better the more that you ate of them. I wish that these could have stuck around, and i definitely like these better than the basic Cheddar & Sour Cream.. which i don't even like that much. But like the flavor swap competition proved, people are afraid of change.
7. Biscuits & Gravy (Do Us A Flavor Year #3)
These are really good. But like with Cheesy Garlic Bread, these shouldn't have won that year. While these are really good, there was one flavor that year that surpassed these. Which is strange for me to say seeing as i am from the south, and biscuits & gravy was a staple food for me growing up. At first, you get a light sour cream flavor then that sage/sausage taste hits you.. they nailed that sausage taste. I'm glad you can still get these.
6. Chicken & Waffles (Do Us A Flavor Year #1)
Truthfully, if there was any chip that i needed to try again to firm my opinion, it would be these. I tried these, and i KNOW i liked them. But for some reason, this is the only chip that my mind completely blanked on, with remembering the taste. So this is the only chip that i can't give an accurate taste description on, since it has been so long since I've had it. But the reason i put it so high on the list is because i know how good it was, just don't remember any specifics about the flavor.
5. Cheddar Bacon Mac & Cheese (Do Us A Flavor Year #2)
Delicious cheesy bacon-goodness. The bacon flavor was a bit artificial, but that's beside the point. These were delicious. Luckily, although these didn't win, they are still available! They actually never went away. They changed the packaging unfortunately, it's now some tacky red color, but as long as we can still get the same good taste. Perfect for packing on a picnic, or eating with a sandwich, or let's be honest, eating the entire bag by yourself.. in one sitting.
4. Cappuccino (Do Us A Flavor Year #2)
HATE putting this chip at number 4. It was so amazing, one of the best chips i have ever tried. This top 4 is a STRONG top 4, and not only my 4 favorite lays chips, but my 4 favorite chips of all time. Before i tried these, i was expecting almost a cinnamon toast crunch type of flavor, but when i tried them, that wasn't the case.. and i was disappointed. But, started eating a few more and adjusted.. and it ended up becoming one of my favorite chips of all time. It had a salty/buttery, coffee/cinnamon flavor.. and a HINT of sweetness. Definitely wasn't too sweet. I wish lay's would bring these back.
3. Korean BBQ (Flavor Swap)
The BEST BBQ chip that i have ever tried in my entire life. The taste was so unique and indescribable. I fell in love first chip, and it's impossible to count how many bags of these that i went through. It was bag after bag. I can't believe that these didn't beat out Honey BBQ in flavor swap. I mean, how many companies have a honey bbq chip, and how many have a Korean BBQ chip? Yeah. You guys messed up.
2. West Coast Truffle Fries (Do Us A Flavor Year #3)
These were amazing, Unique flavor, and extremely addictive. A delicious parmesan/garlic flavor.. i went through so many bags of these. These certainly should have won that year, i am still depressed that they didn't. Biscuits & Gravy were good, but absolutely no comparison to these.
Ding, ding, ding, and the winner is...
1. Mango Salsa (Do Us A Flavor Year #2)
The BEST chip in the wold, hands down. There is nothing on this planet that was, is, or ever will be as good as these chips were. The taste was so unique, indescribable, there truly is nothing else like these chips available. I have an obsession with these chips, As good as some of these other flavors were, i would forget them ALL if someone were to give me a bag of these. I crave them on a daily basis, and i think about them on a daily basis. When thee were available, i literally took a bag of these with me everywhere that i went. I never wanted to be without them. Not only are these the best chip on the planet, they are the best food item in the world that ever existed, or ever will exist. Lay's, if you're reading this, PLEASE bring these chips back.. if only for a limited time. I miss them so very much. I literally have dreams about them at night. #bringthemback #justiceformangosalsa
So there you guys have it, my ranking of all the lay's contest chips. I may be a little obsessed, i know that, and that's okay. As you can see by my top 2, i LOVE Wavy chips. I was heartbroken i didn't like the Greek Tzatziki chips simply because of their form. Hope you guys enjoyed the read, and let me know below what your favorites and least favorites were.
